Unlock Your Child's Potential

Montessori Explorer, the number one Montessori school in San Diego, is dedicated to the social and physical development of young children. Montessori Explorer utilizes the renowned Montessori Method to educate children; thereby, enhancing each child’s social skills while focusing on his or her development.

The Montessori Method was developed over a century ago by a young Italian physician, educator, and philosopher named Maria Montessori. Montessori’s emphasized that children learn through hands on activities, the preschool years are a time of critical brain development, and parents should be partners in their children’s education. These notions are now widely and popularly accepted.

The Montessori Method of teaching is a child-centered, individual focused, alternative method of education for children. The Method fosters a natural desire for the enjoyment of learning and allows each child to follow his or her own intrinsic curiosity. Through the use of the Montessori Method, children learn kindness, courtesy, and respect for others, as well as independence and responsibility. The Method allows children to learn the way each individual child learns best by accomplishing self-directed tasks.

Educational Focus

In a Montessori classroom the educational material is specially designed to be simple, attractive, hands-on, and self correcting. The number of children in each class is small allowing the teacher to effectively work with each child, answer any and all questions, and initiate and foster an interest in learning. A child can choose his or her own work and work at his or her own pace in a noncompetitive, non-threatening environment with individualized education. There is a heavy emphasis on self-directed activity on the part of the child. For the teacher, also known as the director or directress, there is a heavy emphasis on close and constant child observation. A well-trained Montessori teacher spends numerous hours learning and practicing the many basic Montessori-based lessons. A Montessori teacher must be well-versed in multiple areas of education and development principles. Each certified Montessori teacher has passed difficult written and oral exams covering various lessons.

The Montessori Method focuses on three main components:
